I will note that this part of the country (both sides of
the Lake)
is dominated by post-glacial geology.
There are wide areas of ground moraines and drumlin
fields,
along with several prominent terminal moraine lines.
There is a lot of sand and clay (often several hundred feet)
sitting on top of limestone bedrock.
Along the shores, there are features left from previous
'versions' of Lake Michigan
